The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has allowed the hunting of Russian pigeons, setting the hunting season from September 1 to October 31. According to the notification, hunting will only be permitted on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and a Small Game Shooting Licence will be mandatory.

According to the notification, a hunter will be allowed to hunt a maximum of eight Russian pigeons per day. A compensation of Rs5,000 per pigeon will be imposed for hunting beyond the prescribed limit. The value of a live Russian pigeon and its trophy has also been fixed at Rs5,000 per bird.

Hunting of Russian pigeons will be permitted across the province. However, hunting before sunrise and after sunset will be prohibited. Action will be taken against those hunting without a licence or on days other than those specified.

The Wildlife Department will continuously monitor the Russian pigeon population and may immediately suspend hunting if a decline in the number of birds is observed. Hunting of Russian pigeons will remain prohibited throughout the rest of the year outside the designated season.

The notification also seeks the cooperation of police and other law-enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with the hunting rules. Hunters and local communities have been directed to be informed about the hunting policy and regulations.
