KOHAT: A man has been arrested in Kohat for illegally hunting a wild hare, in violation of wildlife protection laws, officials from the Wildlife Department said on Wednesday.

According to the department, the suspect had hunted a wild hare and later uploaded its pictures on social media, prompting swift action by authorities.

Officials said a case has been registered against the accused under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Act 2015. The suspect was also fined Rs15,000 for the offence.

The Wildlife Department confirmed that further legal action is being ensured to discourage illegal hunting practices in the region.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from illegal hunting and from promoting such activities on social media.

They further stated that hunting of hares has been completely banned in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to a decline in their population, and strict enforcement measures are being implemented to protect wildlife.
