MARDAN, July 2: Three wives of a man have filed a petition in the Family Court against their husband as they said their husband Imran allegedly subjected them to electric shocks.
The women said their husband also threatened to kill them. While filing the petition, Ms Fareeda told TNN that her husband used to sell chickpea curry and that he was not willing to fulfill her and her children’s financial needs. She said she approached the court because she wanted divorce.
The lawyer of the women, Mr Qamar Zaman, asked the government to bring some positive changes in the law for contracting a second marriage.
“This must be changed. Islam permits a man to do second nikkah (marriage) but it must be cleared that he can meet the rights of both wives. If he cannot fulfill the needs of two wives, he should not be allowed to contract a second marriage.”
