Woman killed for honour in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: The dead body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the river here in Kherabad area of the district on Thursday. Though initially, the police could not establish the cause behind the brutal murder, however, it was informed that the woman has been killed for ‘honour’ as she was brutally tortured.

Kherabad police said that her hands were tied with ropes and after her murder, the dead body was dumped in the river. The police officials added that the local people have first noticed the dead body floating in the river and then police were informed.

The police party have reached the spot and recovered it. Police have shifted the dead body to the district headquarter hospital for necessary medico-legal examination. A case has been registered against unknown persons in Kherabad police station and further investigations are underway.

There has been an increase in ‘honour’ killing incident in the province. During the last few weeks, four such cases were reported from district Buner.

‘Rs 700m Development Works Underway In Nowshera’

District Nazim Nowshera, Haji Ashfaq Ahmed the government is spending Rs 700 million on different development projects in the district. Ahmad added that the solar energy systems have been installed in 80% basic health units of the district while several projects of roads and drinking water were underway.

The district Nazim claimed that all the middle and high schools of the district have also been installed with solar energy system while sufficient stock of medicines was provided at BHUs of the Nowshera.

He further stated that the issue of shortage of teachers at schools has been tackled up to great extent and wherever the issue still exists the Education Department has been authorized to hire teachers on funds. He said a surge in enrollment at government schools has shown people’s confidence in education reforms taken by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
