Shahzad, son of Muhammad Ayaz, informed the Sheikh Maltoon police station staff while lodging a report that he had brought his thirty-five-year-old sister, Laila, wife of Altaf Naimat, to Mardan Medical Complex Hospital for maternity care.
According to the report, Laila underwent a delivery procedure in the hospital's labor room, but afterward, the labor room staff directed them to transfer the patient to the gynecology ward for further treatment.
Upon reaching the gynecology ward, they were instructed to proceed to the Gynae B ward. However, upon arrival, they were informed that they couldn't admit the patient there as she was designated to the Gynae A ward. As they moved back and forth between the wards, Laila's condition deteriorated, and despite their pleas, neither ward accepted her, leading to her untimely demise.
Shehzad, the deceased woman's brother, filed a complaint of negligence against the staff of Gynae A and Gynae B wards at the Sheikh Maltoon police station, prompting an investigation. The hospital administration confirmed that the newborn baby is in good health.
Meanwhile, Mardan Medical Complex Hospital formed a five-member committee to probe the incident. The hospital spokesperson stated that Professor Usman Khan of Bacha Khan Medical College would lead the committee, tasked with submitting a comprehensive report on Laila Ayaz's death within four days.
