The federal government has approved the promotion of General Syed Asim Munir, a recipient of the prestigious Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), to the rank of Field Marshal in recognition of his exceptional leadership during Operation Bunyān al-Mursoos.
The decision was made during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
According to an official statement, the cabinet unanimously endorsed General Munir’s promotion, citing his remarkable military strategy and the decisive defeat of the enemy under his command.
In another key decision, the cabinet also approved an extension in service for Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Babar Sidhu, acknowledging his continued contributions to the country’s defence beyond his completed tenure.
