A minor girl was taken into protective custody by the Directorate of Human Rights, Child Protection Commission, and police after information surfaced about her proposed marriage in Peshawar’s Phandu area.
The 13- or 14-year-old girl was reportedly being prepared for marriage in Punjab. The relevant authorities received the information through social media, following which the Directorate of Human Rights took notice and informed the Child Protection Commission and Phandu police.
Police and Child Protection Commission officials conducted an operation in Shuftal Banda and took the girl, identified as Komal, into custody. She was subsequently shifted to the girls’ section of Zamong Kor in Peshawar.

According to police, the girl is currently in protective custody of the relevant authorities and will be presented before the Child Protection Court today, where the court will review the matter.
Police said no action has so far been taken against the girl’s family because the marriage had only been arranged and no wedding ceremony was being held at the house. A decision regarding further action will be made after the court’s ruling.
It is pertinent to mention that under the new law in force in the country, marriage involving individuals under the age of 18 has been prohibited.
