Rawalpindi: In Bajaur district, security forces foiled an attempted attack on a checkpoint by militants, killing 12 extremists. However, 11 security personnel were martyred in a suicide blast.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistan Army, on February 16, terrorists affiliated with Fitna-ul-Khawarij attacked a checkpoint in Bajaur district. 

This led to heavy clashes between the security forces and the attackers, during which 12 militants were killed.

The ISPR stated that the attackers were trying to breach the security of the checkpoint, but the forces responded in time, foiling their plan.

After failing, the attackers rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the checkpoint wall, resulting in the death of 11 security personnel.

The army spokesman added that the blast also damaged nearby residential buildings. 

A young girl was killed in the incident, and seven others, including women and children, were injured. The injured were immediately provided with medical aid.

According to the ISPR, clearance operations are ongoing in the area, and further operations are being conducted to locate additional militants.
