The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approached the federal government to deploy nine platoons of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) at sensitive locations in Bannu and Lakki Marwat amid increasing incidents of terrorism and a deteriorating law and order situation.
According to sources, the provincial Home and Tribal Affairs Department has requested the federal Ministry of Interior to deploy FC platoons to protect sensitive installations in the two districts.
According to the letter, two FC platoons have been requested for the district jail in Lakki Marwat, while one platoon each has been sought for the district judicial complex and district administration.
Similarly, in Bannu, one FC platoon each has been requested for the district jail, district judicial complex, deputy commissioner’s office, Hangu Court Bannu Bench, and KTNN grid station.
Sources said the nine platoons would require a total of around 450 FC personnel, who would be deployed to secure the designated locations and assist local police in improving the law and order situation.

The letter stated that additional security was necessary due to the ongoing protests by the police peace committee in Bannu and the prevailing security situation in both districts.
Police officials said security concerns in Bannu have also affected the movement of judicial officers, administrative officials and other government personnel, increasing the need for additional security at sensitive sites and key installations.
Sources said correspondence has also taken place between the KP Police and the provincial Home Department regarding the deployment, with a request that the FC platoons be placed under the command of the respective district police officers.
Police officials confirmed that the letter had been sent to the federal government but said approval for the FC deployment has not yet been granted.
Police attacks have continued to be reported in Bannu and Lakki Marwat, while militants have also carried out drone attacks. In view of the worsening security situation, the KP government has sought federal assistance for the deployment of FC personnel to protect sensitive locations.
