Four people, including children, were killed and 11 others injured after a mortar shell landed in a residential area during clashes between police and militants in Daroori Banda area of Hangu.

According to police sources, an exchange of fire was underway between security forces and militants in the area when mortar shells allegedly fired by militants struck a nearby residential locality.

The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where the condition of several victims is said to be critical.

Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
