The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds across various districts of the province from August 29 to September 5 and issued an alert to all district administrations and relevant departments.

According to the PDMA, Chitral, Lower and Upper Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur and Kohistan are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms during the forecast period.

Rain and thunderstorms are also likely in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber and Mohmand districts.

From September 1 to 4, rain is forecast in Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and North and South Waziristan.

The PDMA warned that heavy rainfall could trigger landslides in vulnerable areas of the upper districts. Urban flooding is also feared in low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi from August 31 to September 5.

Strong winds and lightning may damage weak structures, electricity poles, billboards and crops, the authority said.

The PDMA has directed all district administrations and relevant departments to take precautionary measures and remain alert. Tourists and travellers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel in view of the weather conditions.

Tourists have also been urged to avoid trekking, hiking and camping during heavy rainfall.

The public has been advised to stay away from rivers, streams and rainwater and avoid crossing roads submerged by floodwater. People have also been instructed to remain in safe places during thunderstorms and strong winds.

The PDMA and relevant departments are monitoring the situation around the clock.
