Torrential rains in Nowshera and surrounding areas have triggered flash floods in seasonal streams, inundating several localities including Aman Garh, Labour Colony, Hafizabad, Misalabad, and Nowshera Kalan.

The floodwaters entered homes, causing severe hardship for residents, many of whom are draining water from their houses on a self-help basis.

The continuous downpour has also disrupted the electricity supply, further compounding residents’ difficulties. In Aman Garh, a child tragically drowned in a flooded stream; the body has since been recovered.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Flood Cell reports low-level flooding in various rivers across the province. At Tarbela Dam, water inflow was recorded at 287,000 cusecs, with an outflow of 155,200 cusecs.

The flow of water at Khairabad in the Indus River stands at 206,800 cusecs, while the Kabul River recorded 51,100 cusecs at Nowshera and 42,021 cusecs at Warsak. The Adezai River is flowing at 39,100 cusecs.

In Swat River, water flow has been measured at 10,213 cusecs in Chakdara and 8,662 cusecs in Khwazakhela. The district administration and Flood Cell have issued warnings, urging citizens in low-lying areas to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary movement.

It is worth noting that on June 27, a sudden rise in the Swat River caused 18 people to drownk; four were rescued.

In a related tragedy, the body of nine-year-old Anfaal, who had gone missing during a family trip to Swat, was found yesterday in the Panjkora River in Barang, Bajaur.
