KOHAT: A joyful family gathering to celebrate the birth of a newborn turned into tragedy when the roof of a house collapsed during heavy rain in the Malagin area of Lachi tehsil, Kohat, killing 10 people, including women and children, and injuring 10 others.

According to Rescue 1122, the incident occurred while relatives and neighbours had gathered at the house to congratulate the family on the birth of a child. The roof suddenly caved in amid a rainstorm, trapping several people under the rubble.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the alert and launched a search and rescue operation with the assistance of local residents.

Rescue officials said the bodies of 10 victims, including women and children, have so far been recovered from the debris, while 10 injured people were pulled out alive and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Among the injured are two girls, aged three and four, and a four-year-old boy.

Rescue authorities said the operation was still underway, warning that the death toll and the number of injured could rise as more people were feared trapped beneath the rubble.
