The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a rain alert, forecasting thunderstorms and rainfall in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until August 15.

According to the alert, rainfall is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad. Rain has also been forecast for Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Khyber, Mohmand and Kurram.

The PDMA said the rains could trigger landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas, while low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi face the risk of urban flooding.

The authority has directed district administrations to ensure advance precautionary measures, continuously monitor rivers, streams and rainwater channels, and keep roads and drainage systems clear.

The public has been advised to remain in safe places during rain and thunderstorms, while tourists have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and maintain a safe distance from rivers, streams and rainwater channels.

People have also been advised to avoid hiking, trekking and camping during heavy rainfall and not to attempt to walk or drive through floodwater. During thunderstorms, they should stay away from exposed electrical wires and electrical appliances.

The authority has also instructed parents to keep children away from rivers, streams, pits and drainage channels, while relevant departments have been directed to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of the situation.
