Landi Kotal, a region in Khyber, is known for its rich sports culture, having produced athletes who have represented both nationally and internationally. Today, athletes from this area are playing for various departments. Despite the approval of the PC-1 for a sports complex, the project was halted due to various issues, and the installation of lights, grass, and a tube well at the high school ground also remains incomplete despite approvals.
These concerns were voiced by Khyber Sports Club General Secretary Kaleemullah Shinwari and others during a 'Meet the Press' event at the Landi Kotal Press Club. They highlighted that Landi Kotal is brimming with sports talent, with its players being recruited by various departments annually. However, the government has not initiated the construction of the sports complex, and the approved funds remain unaccounted for.
Similarly, construction work at both the high school ground and the Kunj ground has been deliberately stalled, and these grounds have only been made playable for tournaments through local efforts.

The speakers also pointed out that the two grounds in Tehsil Landi Kotal are in a state of disrepair. Thousands of spectators attend football tournaments, with high-ranking government officials as special guests. Despite sports department officers visiting and witnessing the state of the grounds and the enthusiasm of the spectators, their promises remain unfulfilled. The region's elected representatives have done little for the sports community.
Talented athletes explained that poverty prevents them from advancing in their careers. Around twenty gifted athletes are lost each year. Multiple requests have been made to the Director General of Sports and local MPs for the release of approved funds for the sports complex and grounds, but there has been no response.
The players accused the authorities of constructing sports complexes in districts with minimal talent, while Landi Kotal, where sports are a passion, remains neglected. The organizers and athletes demand immediate provision of grass, lights, and water for the grounds, and they call on the sports department to support talented but financially struggling athletes so they can make a name for themselves and the country.
