Kurram: Malik Rais Khan, a social activist and member of the Bagan Committee from Lower Kurram, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Bagan, police reported on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when Khan was on his way back home after attending a jirga. Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the murder, and no group has claimed responsibility.
However, some circles view the killing as an attempt to undermine the ongoing peace efforts in Kurram, where tensions have been escalating.

The region has been on edge since an armed attack on a convoy of passenger vehicles on November 21, which left 133 people dead and over 200 injured. The fragile security situation has sparked fears of further violence, with ongoing clashes severely impacting daily life.
The clashes in Kurram have led to severe shortages of food, fuel, and essential medicines. In response, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, during the 18th cabinet meeting, directed immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis. On his orders, essential medicines were airlifted to the region, with deliveries commencing yesterday to alleviate the dire situation.
