The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said six people were killed and six others injured in rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between July 24 and July 26 after roofs and walls of houses collapsed due to heavy rains and flash floods.

According to the PDMA, the deceased included three men and three children, while the injured comprised three men and three women. During the same period, 26 houses were damaged, including 19 partially damaged and seven completely destroyed.

The authority said that since July 19, heavy monsoon rains and flash floods have affected 25 districts of the province, raising the overall death toll to 32. The victims include 13 men, three women and 16 children, while 35 people have been injured, including 16 men, 12 women and seven children.

The PDMA said a total of 72 houses have been damaged since July 19, including 55 partially and 17 completely destroyed. It also reported the death of 46 livestock due to various rain-related incidents.

The affected districts include Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Upper Kohistan, Tank, Tor Ghar, Kurram, and North and South Waziristan.

The PDMA said it is coordinating with Rescue 1122, district administrations and other relevant departments, while relief operations are continuing. District administrations have been directed to expedite relief activities and ensure the timely provision of assistance and relief goods to affected families.

Meanwhile, the PDMA has also issued an alert over the potential risk of Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in the upper districts due to rising temperatures and intermittent rainfall, which may accelerate glacier melting and increase the volume and water level of glacier lakes.

The authority warned that glacier lake outbursts could trigger sudden flooding and rapid water flows. Alerts have been issued to the administrations of Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, Upper Kohistan and Mansehra.

The PDMA directed authorities to ensure continuous monitoring of vulnerable glacier lake sites, timely warning systems, evacuation preparedness and the identification of safe locations. Residents of low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert, while tourists and travellers have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, camping and trekking in high-risk areas.

The authority also warned of the danger of vehicles being swept away in fast-flowing water and advised the public to avoid rivers, streams, glacier lakes and narrow mountain valleys. Livestock and essential belongings in vulnerable areas should be moved to safer locations.

The PDMA said its Emergency Operations Centre remains fully operational around the clock, and the public can contact the toll-free helpline 1700 for emergency assistance, weather updates and information.
