A woman died and 26 others fell ill after consuming a charity meal in Sherkot, within the limits of Astarzai Police Station in Kohat. Police have launched an investigation and sent food samples for forensic analysis.

According to police, the charity meal had been arranged by Ismat Ali to offer prayers for the departed soul of his daughter. Shortly after the food was distributed, several women began feeling unwell and were provided immediate medical treatment.

Preliminary evidence suggests that a poisonous substance may have been mixed into or accidentally contaminated the food. Police have also taken into custody the owner of the house where the meal was prepared for questioning.

Authorities said the exact cause of the incident will only be determined once the forensic report is received, while investigations are ongoing.
