PESCO’s promise of uninterrupted power supply during Eidul Azha failed to materialize, as widespread load-shedding gripped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa starting from the second day of Eid, drawing sharp public criticism.

On June 5, PESCO’s Chief Operating Officer had issued a directive to all circles, instructing them to ensure uninterrupted electricity during Eid, especially in light of the severe heat forecast. However, prolonged power outages were reported on Eid’s second day across Peshawar’s areas including Sarki Gate, Qaidabad, Guldara, Kareemabad, and Asiya Gate, along with other districts, leaving citizens frustrated and distressed.

Angry residents took to social media to lash out at PESCO, demanding action against the utility’s chief and other responsible officials. Many users described PESCO’s press release as a “cruel joke” on the public.

Waleed Khan, a resident of Sarki Gate, said, “We were assured three days of uninterrupted power during Eid, but it turned out to be an empty promise. If load-shedding was planned, why make such an announcement?” Another resident, Waqas Khan from Guldara, added, “The same thing happened during Eidul Fitr, and now again on Eidul Azha. PESCO has completely ruined our celebrations.”

Sources revealed that the control room set up at PESCO headquarters was largely limited to receiving calls, while the Power Distribution Centre (PDC) confirmed that the PESCO chief had instructed uninterrupted supply only for the first day of Eid, despite the press release committing to all three days.

Public circles have condemned PESCO’s conduct as deceptive and unacceptable, calling on authorities to take immediate action against officials who failed to honor their commitments.
