A suspected terrorist involved in the assassination attempt on police officer Noor Alam Khan, who was on polio duty, has been killed in a police encounter in the Wazir Sub-Division of Bannu.

Earlier, Constable Noor Alam Khan, a resident of Kam Chashmi Domel, was shot dead by unknown assailants near a refugee camp in the Domel police precincts during a polio vaccination campaign. The attackers fled the scene after the incident.

The body of the slain officer was moved to KGN Hospital for a post-mortem, and the Bannu police, following the example of Lakki Marwat, called for a protest. The protest led to the closure of Police Line Chowk from all sides to traffic.

During the demonstration, senior police officials, including the District Police Officer (DPO), Superintendent of Police (SP), and Deputy Superintendents (DSPs), arrived on-site to negotiate with the protesters. The officials requested the protesters to disperse and allow one hour to address their concerns.

Members of the business community and ordinary citizens also joined the protest, raising their voices against the targeted killings of police officers and other issues. Protesters warned that any further killings of officers could escalate the situation. They demanded the arrest of the killers, dead or alive, and called for immediate measures to protect their officers and to curb targeted killings.

Following the attack, police launched a search operation in the area to locate the suspects. DPO Ziauddin Ahmed urged the protesters to end their demonstration and reopen the roads, giving the police one hour to act. During this period, the suspected terrorist was killed in a police encounter.

The police revealed that another suspect involved in the attack is still at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. Authorities assured that teams are making all possible efforts to arrest the remaining culprits.

This incident marks a significant development in reducing the intensity of the police officers' protests. Police have assured the public that no leniency will be shown in the fight against terrorism.
