In Charsadda, an accused in serious cases managed to escape from police custody by jumping from a Mazda van, unbeknownst to the officers for several hours. The district police officer has since registered a case against seven policemen, who have been remanded in custody.
According to sources, on Wednesday, Wali Muhammad, an inmate of Mardan Jail under Charsadda Police supervision, was being transported for a court appearance in a Mazda van. On the return journey, he escaped by jumping from the vehicle.
Charsadda police confirmed that Wali Muhammad, son of Fazal Muhammad from Ankar Kaly, Rajar, was arrested on charges of serious crimes, including murder, dacoity, robbery, and banditry.
Police Spokesperson Safi Jan stated that DPO Charsadda Masood Bangash took immediate notice of the escape and ordered an FIR against the responsible policemen.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Subhanullah, along with officers Dawood, Inam, Aamir, Azam, Niaz Muhammad, and Inayatur Rahman, were named in the FIR. Wali Muhammad was also listed in the FIR as an escaped prisoner.
The FIR notes that the escape occurred from a Mazda van, which differs from typical prison vans that have bars on all sides. Mazda vans resemble regular buses with open fronts and seats like normal vehicles, making it easier for the prisoner to escape.
Following the trial, the seven implicated policemen were arrested and remanded in custody. An inquiry committee was formed to investigate how the prisoner escaped, and to determine if there was any negligence or complicity on the part of the police. The committee has been given immediate orders to clarify the situation.
A police team has also been assembled to apprehend the escaped suspect, Wali Muhammad, with orders for his immediate arrest.
It should be noted that this is not the first time suspects in serious cases have escaped from police custody in Charsadda, including previous escapes from City Police Station and Charsadda Sub Jail.
