Rain and Snowfall Intensify Cold in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Continuous rainfall has gripped various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, intensifying the cold, while the upper regions are witnessing mesmerizing snowfall.

According to the Meteorological Department, Peshawar and several other districts experienced the first prolonged spell of winter rain, which is still ongoing. 

The persistent showers have caused a significant drop in temperature, with Peshawar recording 8°C, Parachinar at -4°C, and subzero temperatures in Kalam, Malam Jabba, and Chitral. Dir Bala recorded 0°C.

Low-Lying Areas Affected by Water Accumulation

Heavy rainfall has affected Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat, Jamrud, Bara, and other districts, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Peshawar.

Residents have faced severe difficulties, though no reports of damage have surfaced so far. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had already issued an advisory regarding the weather conditions.

Snowfall Continues in Dir

Dir and its surrounding areas continue to experience snowfall, marking an end to the prolonged dry spell. Local sources report that Loari Tunnel, Kumrat Valley, Usherai Dara, Shahi, Bin Shahi, Kalpani, and other upper areas have received up to one foot of snow. 

The authorities have confirmed that the Loari Tunnel-Chitral Road remains open for all traffic, although vehicles are only allowed through with snow chains. Stranded vehicles near the tunnel have been safely cleared.

Power Outages in Dir

The continuous rain and snowfall have disrupted the power supply in Dir, leaving residents struggling without electricity since late at night.

Chitral's Scenic Snowfall Attracts Tourists

In Chitral, rain and snowfall continue, enhancing the region’s beauty and attracting tourists eager to witness the winter landscapes. Stunning images of snow-covered mountains and valleys are circulating on social media, further fueling interest in these areas.

Power Disruptions in Peshawar

Peshawar's power infrastructure suffered as heavy rainfall led to widespread outages. Despite official claims, electricity remained suspended in various areas for over 10 hours. Additionally, cloud cover and persistent rain affected rooftop solar systems, adding to the inconvenience of residents.

Impact on Roads and Agriculture

So far, Peshawar has recorded 11mm of rainfall, while snowfall in the mountainous regions has disrupted transportation. Water accumulation on roads has slowed down traffic, causing further inconvenience.

As the cold intensifies, residents have resumed using warm clothing. The Meteorological Department forecasts intermittent rain and snowfall throughout the week.

Snowfall and Rain in Swat

Swat is also experiencing rain in the plains and snowfall in its mountainous regions. Local sources report light snowfall in Kalam, Malam Jabba, and Gabin Jabba, while steady rain continues across the district.

Experts believe this spell of precipitation will reduce the effects of the dry season, increase water levels in the Swat River, and prove beneficial for crops and orchards.
