The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert in view of rain and thunderstorms expected across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from August 17 to 21.
According to the PDMA, rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in various districts of the province. Rain is also likely in the upper areas of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur and Kohistan.
Rain is also expected in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram and Hangu. There is a risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi.

In view of the risk of landslides in mountainous areas of the upper districts, citizens have been advised to remain cautious.
The PDMA has directed district administrations to take precautionary measures in vulnerable areas and ensure continuous monitoring of rivers, streams and rainwater channels.

According to the PDMA, strong winds and thunderstorms may damage weak structures, electricity poles, billboards and solar panels.

The public has been advised to stay away from rivers and streams during rainfall and maintain distance from exposed electrical wires and electrical appliances during thunderstorms. Tourists have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, while parents have been urged to prevent children from going near streams and waterways.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, rescue personnel and necessary equipment should be kept ready to deal with possible urban flooding and landslides. Citizens can contact the toll-free helpline 1700 for any untoward incident or the latest weather-related information.
