The checking of belongings belonging to Afghan families returning to Afghanistan at the Torkham border export terminal has been further tightened, during which motorcycles were removed from several vehicles.
On the instructions of customs authorities, strict monitoring at the border led to many vehicles being stopped for detailed inspection. During the checks, motorcycles and some other items being transported along with household belongings were declared against regulations and removed.
According to sources, the returning families were carrying household items with them, however officials clarified that motorcycles and all such items that could fall under commercial use or smuggling are prohibited.

Customs authorities stated that only limited and legally permitted household goods are allowed through the Torkham border, while the transfer of prohibited items in any form will not be tolerated.
For this purpose, the monitoring and checking process has been further intensified to ensure the prevention of illegal trade and smuggling.
On the other hand, some transporters and drivers complained that the new restrictions and strict checking have created difficulties for them and that clear guidance is not being provided.
Authorities maintained that all actions are being carried out in accordance with government policy and customs laws, while legal action may be taken against those violating the rules.
