Peshawar: A suspect wanted in the murder case of a woman and her nine-month-old infant in the Matni area was killed during a police encounter, while his two accomplices managed to escape.
According to police, an exchange of fire took place between police and armed suspects near the Akhun Baba graveyard in Maryamzai, within the jurisdiction of Matni police station. During the shootout, the main suspect, Sikandar alias Lamba, was allegedly hit by gunfire from his own accomplices and died on the spot.
His accomplices, Imran alias Daba and another unidentified suspect, escaped. A search operation is underway to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Police said Sikandar alias Lamba was wanted in connection with the June 29 murder of a woman and her nine-month-old baby in the Pasani area of Matni. He and his accomplices are accused of killing the victims before dumping their bodies in a dry well.
According to police, the deceased suspect was also an alleged facilitator for militants and was wanted in several serious criminal cases, including murder and sabotage.

He was booked under FIR No. 290, dated June 29, 2026, at Matni Police Station under Sections 302/34. He was also wanted by the CTD in FIR No. 105, dated June 30, 2026, under Sections 120-B, 3/4 of the Explosive Substances Act, 7 ATA, 11-F(2), 11-N, 11-OOO, 188, 21(i), and 21(C).
Police said raids and search operations are continuing at multiple locations to apprehend the absconding suspects.
Earlier this week, a woman and her nine-month-old son were allegedly murdered over an inheritance dispute and a third marriage issue in Matni. Their bodies were thrown into a dry well. Following the incident, police arrested the victim's husband and several other suspects and launched an investigation.
