PESHAWAR: A woman and her nine-month-old son were allegedly murdered over an inheritance dispute in the Matni area of Peshawar, with their bodies later buried in a dry well, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the victim's husband has been arrested, while his stepson and a friend have also been nominated as suspects in the double murder case.

Initial investigations revealed that the deceased woman, identified as Saadia, had recently entered into a court marriage with the suspect, Hakim Khan, becoming his third wife. It was her second marriage after a divorce. Her nine-month-old son was from her previous marriage.

Police said Saadia had returned to her parents' home a few days before the incident following a domestic dispute. On the day of the murder, the suspect allegedly persuaded her to return home. She and her infant son were then allegedly killed near the house, and their bodies were buried in a dry well.

During interrogation, the arrested suspect told investigators that his stepson carried out the killings. According to police, the suspect claimed that his son feared Saadia would demand a share in the family's inheritance, prompting the accused to kill both the woman and her infant child.

Police said further investigation is underway, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.
