The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allocated Rs351.1 million for gifts, tea, and entertainment expenses in government offices under the provincial budget for the new fiscal year, according to official budget documents.

The documents show that despite an allocation of Rs270 million for the same purpose in the previous fiscal year, the actual expenditure rose to Rs473.6 million, nearly 70 per cent higher than the approved amount.

Budget papers further reveal that the Provincial Assembly, Finance Department, and General Administration Department together account for 78 per cent of the total entertainment budget.

Among all departments, the Finance Department has received the largest allocation of Rs116.2 million, followed by the General Administration Department with Rs100.5 million and the Provincial Assembly with Rs60 million.

The Chief Minister's Secretariat has been allocated Rs18 million for entertainment expenses in the new fiscal year. However, budget documents indicate that it spent Rs70 million on gifts, tea, and entertainment during the previous fiscal year, significantly exceeding its current allocation.

Other allocations include Rs8.99 million for the Local Government Department, Rs5.07 million for the Home Department, Rs4.06 million for the Health Department, Rs3.72 million for the Planning and Development Department, Rs2.73 million for the Social Welfare Department, Rs1.06 million for the Police Department, and Rs142,000 for the Zakat and Ushr Department.

Provincial Finance Minister Muzammil Aslam declined to comment on the allocations and expenditures when approached for his response.
