PESHAWAR:  suspect wanted in 25 cases involving serious crimes was killed during an exchange of fire with police, according to officials.

Police identified the deceased as Azmat alias Azmatey, son of Hidayatullah. They said he was wanted by police in Peshawar, Nowshera, and Bannu in connection with multiple cases, including murder, attempted murder, attacks on police, armed robbery, dacoity, drug trafficking, and other serious offences.

According to the police, the suspect and his accomplices allegedly opened fire on a police party with the intent to kill upon seeing officers. During the ensuing exchange of fire, Azmat was fatally shot.

Police said a weapon was recovered from the suspect's possession.

Authorities added that efforts are underway to arrest the accomplices who managed to flee the scene.
