A case of alleged acid throwing at a young man in Chamkani, Peshawar, over a dispute related to refusal to marry has taken a new turn. The woman nominated in the case has denied throwing acid at the man, claiming that she herself was also injured after being burned by acid during the incident.

Police initially registered a case based on the young man’s statement. However, further investigation is underway in light of the woman’s statement and other evidence.

According to police, both injured individuals were shifted to a burn center for treatment. Police said the actual facts of the incident will become clear with the help of CCTV footage, statements from both injured persons, mobile phone data, and other evidence.

Police said 26-year-old Siddiqullah, son of Abdullah, a resident of Abdul Rauf Town, reported to Chamkani Police Station that he had a friendly relationship with a woman, Atiqa, a resident of Gulbahar No. 4. According to him, the woman was allegedly blackmailing him over marriage and demanding Rs20 million.

Siddiqullah alleged that when he refused to marry her, the woman came to his house and, as soon as he opened the door, allegedly threw acid at him, causing burns to various parts of his body. He also accused the woman of firing shots at him.

Based on Siddiqullah’s statement, police registered a case against the woman under Sections 324 and 336-B, relating to attempted murder and acid throwing.

Police said the woman nominated in the case is married and has two children. Initial investigations indicate that the two had become friends while working as teachers at a private school.

In her initial statement to police, the woman denied throwing acid. She said she had been living with her parents after having a dispute with her husband. According to her, Siddiqullah had told her that he would help reconcile her with her husband and had invited both of them to his house.

The woman said that when she arrived at Siddiqullah’s house, her husband was not there. An argument then broke out, during which the acid incident occurred. She also denied opening fire, claiming that another person present at the scene fired the shots.

Police said the woman is also being questioned. The actual circumstances of the incident will be determined after examining the statements of both injured individuals, CCTV footage, mobile phone data, and other evidence.
