LANDI KOTAL: An alleged honor killing in Sultan Khel area of Khyber has once again highlighted the dark side of society, where serious allegations emerge of lives being taken in the name of honor. Police have registered a murder case against four people on the complaint of the victim’s mother and launched an investigation.

According to the police report, a woman from Sultan Khel stated in her application submitted to the Landi Kotal police station that she had been expelled from her parents’ home a few days earlier, while her children had also been kept away from her.

According to the woman, at around 1am on the night of the incident, she was informed that her elder daughter had died at home. After receiving the information, she reached the scene and, upon seeing her daughter’s condition, suspected that she had been subjected to violence.

The complainant alleged that there were marks of violence on her daughter’s body and that she had allegedly been beaten and killed. The application submitted to police also alleged that the victim was accused of immoral conduct and was allegedly killed in the name of honor.

The allegation is not merely a murder case but also raises serious questions about a mindset in which an allegation or suspicion against an individual is considered justification for taking their life. If the allegations are established during the investigation, the incident would emerge not only as the killing of a daughter but as an extremely serious case of violence in the name of honor.

In her application to police, the woman named Shahwat Khan, Nadir Khan, Safirullah, sons of Qadir Khan, and Rajidullah, son of Shahwat Khan, and requested legal action against them.

Police registered a case on the complaint and launched an investigation. Sections 302, 311 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code have been included in the case. Police said all aspects of the incident would be examined and further legal action would be taken in light of the evidence.

A mother’s plea for justice over the alleged killing of her daughter also raises the question of how an allegation, suspicion or so-called family honor can ever become a reason for taking a human life. Honor cannot justify taking a person’s life, and transparent investigation and action in accordance with the law are essential to uncover the truth in such cases.

It is important to note that all allegations, including the allegation of an honor killing, were made by the victim’s mother in her application to police. The allegations have not yet been independently verified, and the final facts will emerge only after the police investigation and judicial proceedings.
