RAWALPINDI: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Thursday said that Pakistan had carried out a major operation, codenamed “Ghazab Lil Haqq”, against the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and what he termed “Fitna al-Khawarij”, resulting in the killing of 247 militants and injuries to more than 400 others.
Addressing a press conference, the military spokesperson said Prime Minister had been briefed in detail about the operation. He maintained that the action was taken in response to cross-border aggression and militant activity targeting Pakistan.
According to the ISPR chief, Afghan Taliban forces allegedly opened fire at 53 locations across 15 sectors along the Pak-Afghan border. “All 53 attacks were effectively repulsed,” he said, adding that Pakistani forces responded “wherever fire was initiated”.
Lt Gen Chaudhry claimed that 73 militant posts were completely destroyed while 18 were taken over. He further stated that 115 tanks and armoured vehicles were also destroyed during the engagement. Air operations targeted what he described as militant positions in various areas across the border.
The military spokesperson rejected reports circulating in Afghan and social media alleging damage to civilian infrastructure. “No civilian was targeted in any Pakistani action, and no non-combatant was killed,” he said, terming such claims as “baseless propaganda”.
He added that 12 Pakistani soldiers were martyred during the operation, paying tribute to what he called their sacrifice in defence of the country.
Tensions along the Pak-Afghan border have escalated in recent days, with both sides accusing each other of provocation, further straining already fragile ties between Islamabad and Kabul.
