Powerful Western Weather System to Impact Pakistan Until February 22, Bringing Rain and Snow
The system is expected to impact 70-80% of northern Pakistan, affecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, where moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall in mountainous areas are predicted.
Islamabad: A strong western weather system is set to affect Pakistan from today until February 22, bringing rainfall and snowfall to various regions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The system is expected to impact 70-80% of northern Pakistan, affecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, where moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall in mountainous areas are predicted.

Regional Forecasts:
- Balochistan: The system is likely to bring significant rainfall to Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, and Khuzdar, with snowfall expected in the mountainous regions. Light to moderate rainfall is also anticipated in Gwadar, Pasni, Turbat, and Ormara, with chances of hailstorms in some areas.
- Sindh: While no rain is expected in most of Sindh, drizzles or showers may occur in Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad. Karachi will not receive rain, but the city might experience partly cloudy skies and high humidity due to western winds.
- Punjab: Good rainfall is expected between February 19-21, particularly in central and southern Punjab, where 2-3 rain spells could bring hailstorms in some areas. Islamabad and surrounding regions may also experience multiple rain spells during this period.
- Karachi: The western system will provide relief from dry and dusty conditions, although rain is not expected. However, by the last week of February, Karachi's weather may turn slightly cooler.
Following the departure of this weather system, a cold wave is expected to affect northern Pakistan, bringing a drop in temperatures.
