PESHAWAR: Despite the passage of a year, the families of 42 police officers martyred in terrorist attacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have yet to receive the official compensation package of Rs. 10 million each.
According to data from the Central Police Office, a total of 2,202 police personnel have been killed in terrorism-related incidents in the province, with financial assistance packages already disbursed to the families of 2,160 martyrs. However, bureaucratic hurdles have delayed payments to the remaining 42 families.
The affected families have urged the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) to expedite the approval process so they can receive the long-overdue compensation.

Official documents reveal that the approval process for the compensation package requires fulfilling 16 conditions, including a detailed report, FIR, death certificate, struck-off certificate, family list, FRC certificate, children's bank accounts, and other formalities.
The Central Police Office has confirmed that the cases of the 42 martyrs have already been forwarded to the Home and Tribal Affairs Department and the Finance Department for approval.
Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed acknowledged the delays, attributing them to financial cycles within the government. However, he assured that the funds would be released as soon as they become available: "Due to the government's financial cycle, there are delays in fund disbursement, but once the amount is released, it will be immediately transferred to the families of the martyrs."
