Parachinar, Kurram District: The prolonged clashes between two tribes over a land dispute in Kurram District have finally ceased, with all parties agreeing to a ceasefire.
Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud confirmed that trenches have been cleared and security forces have taken control of these positions. Police sources reported no incidents of gunfire from the five affected locations since last night. Hospital sources updated the casualty figures to 47 fatalities and over 175 injuries during the six days of the conflict.
The violence, which began over a property dispute in areas like Boshehra and Mali Khel, quickly spread to Piwar, Tangi, Balish Khel, Haar Kaly, Maqbal, Kunj Ali Zai, and Para Chamkani Karman, severely impacting the local population. The conflict saw continuous gunfire and heavy weaponry usage, escalating to 44 deaths and 176 injuries by the sixth day.
Efforts to establish a ceasefire, involving the district administration, military leadership, police, and tribal elders, initially failed as both parties violated the truce. However, the recent agreement appears to hold, bringing temporary relief to the region.
Despite the ceasefire, the main Parachinar-Tall highway remains closed for the seventh consecutive day, causing significant financial losses to farmers and traders, amounting to millions of rupees. The road closure has also led to shortages of food, medicine, and other essential supplies.
