Transplant surgeon Dr. Shahid Khan stated that kidney transplantation is a highly complex and expensive medical procedure. However, Khyber Teaching Hospital is now providing this service free of cost to deserving patients. He added that the transplant was carried out successfully after comprehensive medical evaluations and necessary tests of both the patient and the donor.

Hospital officials said that both the recipient and the donor remained in satisfactory health following the surgery and were discharged to their homes within a week after recovery.

Authorities further stated that the hospital plans to expand its transplant program with the help of modern medical facilities. Future plans also include launching free bone marrow and liver transplant services for deserving patients.
