The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of rain, strong winds and thunderstorms from July 6 to 8, and has urged residents and relevant authorities to take precautionary measures.
According to the PDMA, most districts of the province are expected to receive rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, with heavy downpours likely in some areas. Urban flooding is feared in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Swat and Abbottabad.
A PDMA spokesperson said there is also a risk of landslides in the mountainous areas of Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra and Kohistan, while water levels in streams and seasonal waterways may rise significantly.
The authority warned that strong winds could damage weak structures, electricity poles, solar panels and standing crops. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from trees, fragile buildings and power poles during storms.
