ISLAMABAD: Heavy snowfall has blanketed Hunza, Skardu, Diamer, Lower Dir, Abbottabad, Murree, and Galiyat, leading to road blockages and travel disruptions across the northern areas. Authorities are actively working to restore connectivity, but severe weather conditions continue to pose challenges for travelers.

In Swat, rainfall in low-lying areas and snowfall in upper regions have intensified the cold wave. Popular tourist spots like Malam Jabba, Kalam, Utror, and Gabral are experiencing intermittent snowfall, making life increasingly difficult for residents. The Kalam-Mahodand road has been completely closed, restricting movement in the region.

Similarly, in Murree, continuous rain and snowfall have dropped temperatures further. Areas including Mall Road, Kashmir Point, Kuldana, Jhika Gali, and Kali Mitti are covered in snow, attracting tourists but also creating travel hazards. Deputy Commissioner Murree, Agha Zaheer Abbas, stated that authorities are sprinkling salt on roads to prevent accidents and that tourist assistance centers are fully operational.

Meanwhile, Lower Dir and Azad Kashmir’s Upper Neelum, Lawat Bala, and Sharda are also witnessing fresh snowfall, adding to the winter chill. In Balochistan, Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, and Toba Achakzai have received snowfall, while Chaman, Qila Abdullah, and surrounding areas are experiencing heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has warned of an extreme cold wave entering Balochistan, further worsening conditions.

Authorities have urged residents and travelers to exercise caution and stay updated on weather conditions before planning journeys.
