Trade activities officially resumed at the Kharlachi border crossing on the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier after a six-month hiatus, marking a significant development in regional commerce and cross-border cooperation.

Speaking to the media, Border In-Charge Major Moeez attributed the reopening to the concerted efforts of the district administration, provincial government, and security forces. “This vital milestone is a result of their successful collaboration,” he said.

Customs Officer Alauddin hailed the move as a step in the national interest. “Reopening this border will not only support the local economy but also strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan,” he noted.

The resumption of trade has been warmly welcomed by local communities and tribal elders, who see it as a boost to economic opportunities in the region.

Tribal leaders urged authorities to further activate the Kharlachi route, calling it the closest ground trade link to Kabul and a key corridor for enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.

Afghan border official Maulana Javed echoed these sentiments, stating, “Afghanistan seeks fraternal and friendly relations with all its neighbors and wants to enhance collaboration in trade, travel, and other sectors.”

Member of Provincial Assembly Ali Hadi Irfani described the reopening as a wise decision, especially in light of the eastern border closure. “This step will promote trade, employment, and people-to-people contacts across the region,” he remarked.
