A professor from the Pakistan Studies department at Malakand University has been arrested on charges of attempting to marry a student and allegedly making inappropriate videos.
The incident took place in the village of Haibat Gram in the Lower Dir district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Following the allegations, the police took the professor into custody and sent him to jail, while investigations into the case are ongoing.
Speculations have surfaced suggesting that the professor’s mobile phone contains multiple unethical videos of students. However, speaking to TNN, a police official clarified that the professor’s phone is not in police custody, and they cannot confirm any such allegations at this stage.
On February 4, a student from Malakand University's Urdu department filed a complaint with the police, accusing the professor of harassing her for months. She alleged that the professor had been persistently following her and attempting to intimidate her in different ways.

According to the student, she got engaged three months ago, which reportedly triggered criticism from the professor. She also claimed that she had previously reported his behavior to the university’s provost.
Detailing the incident on the day of the complaint, the student stated that the professor came to her house at around 3:30 PM and pressured her into marrying him.
The student had also written a letter to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, urging action against the professor. In her letter, she provided details of the harassment and unethical behavior she had faced. However, feeling hopeless about receiving justice from university authorities, she decided to approach the police.
In an official statement, the university announced that the professor had been immediately suspended following the FIR. His suspension will remain in effect for up to 90 days or until the investigation is completed. During this period, he will not be allowed to enter university premises.
The statement further emphasized the university’s commitment to ensuring an impartial investigation and vowed to take the case to its logical conclusion based on documented evidence.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister has formed an investigative committee to probe the incident. The committee consists of Additional Secretary Administration Asif Rahim and AIG Police Sonia Shamroz. It has been directed to complete the inquiry and submit a report within 15 days.
