Mind Your Own Business: The Intrusive Curiosity of Eastern Cultures

About Eastern people, there's a popular saying: "Where no one has any business, they have the most." The more you tell them not to do something, the more they pursue it.

About Eastern people, there's a popular saying: "Where no one has any business, they have the most." The more you tell them not to do something, the more they pursue it.

Everyone has a personal life that they should be free to live as they choose, without interference. However, this principle often remains just a saying because, in practice, it's rarely followed.

Like ordinary people, celebrities also have personal lives. Yet, our Pakistani public feels it's their right to interfere in every matter, whether it involves relatives, neighbors, or even celebrities.

Consider the following common remarks: "Did you see that cricketer? He wore boots without socks!" "Did you see that drama actress? She looks so modest on TV, but look at what she wore on that show. Disgraceful!" "How can that woman wear a dupatta in public and then take photos in London with her sons? Such behavior is not befitting of a widow."

Or, someone might say: "Oh, that Pashto singer is so pretty, but why did she divorce her husband?" Or: "Look! This news anchor came to the wedding and even wore bangles."

These comments circulate on social media daily, reflecting our society's tendencies. However, I believe celebrities have the right to their personal lives. A cricketer has his preferences and can live his life as he wishes.

An actress plays a role according to the character's requirements, but she has her own life as well and can dress however she likes. If she and her family have no objections, why should people comment on her clothes?

If a woman is a politician and a widow, does that mean she shouldn't spend time with her children? Should she stop living? Just because the children's father isn't around, should the mother also sit and wait to die? Doesn't she have the right to live and enjoy what she has? Politics is her profession, but she is also a human being who has the right to live her life. Taking a picture is not a big deal, especially with her children.

A news anchor is just like any other girl, so she can wear bangles too. Yet, we think that a girl who appears on the news can't wear bangles.

When it comes to the singer, she too has a personal life. If she sings for a living, that's her profession. We shouldn't question her character just because she divorced her husband. Perhaps she wasn't happy with him, or maybe he divorced her. After all, she's not the first woman in the world to get a divorce.

People seem to have so much free time or make so much time to comment on celebrities' pictures on social media, criticizing and commenting without missing an opportunity to be negative.

We need to transform our negative and critical mindset into a positive and constructive one. We should play an active role in the development of our country rather than unjustly criticizing others, especially those who are contributing to various fields.
