Employees of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar have intensified their protest against long-standing deprivation of promotions and have announced that their struggle will continue until their demands are met.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, the university’s Deputy Registrar, Samira Tariq, along with fellow employees, stated that since the establishment of the university in 2005, not a single employee has been granted a promotion.
According to her, whenever employees raised their voices for promotions, the administration delayed the matter through various excuses. She also expressed concern that after the press conference, employees might face pressure, including possible transfers or further neglect.
Samira Tariq said that there are employees in the university who have been working in the same grade for 20 to 26 years, which she termed a clear example of administrative inefficiency.

She added that employees have been consistently raising their demands for the past 10 years, but there has been no serious progress from the administration. She emphasized that granting promotions is the responsibility of the administration and a fundamental right of employees, and their demand is by no means illegal.
Samira Tariq appealed to the provincial government for intervention and urged Chief Minister Suhail Afridi and Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi to take immediate notice, ensure employees get their rights, and introduce a transparent and automatic promotion system for the future.
She further said that employees have been protesting at the university for the past three days and that the movement will continue until their demands are accepted.
