A court has sentenced security guard Sher Muhammad to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment in the murder case of Islamia College Peshawar lecturer Bashir Ahmad. The convict was arrested from Karak district and presented before the court, where the charges were proven against him.
According to police, the incident occurred on February 19, 2023, when the accused opened fire during a minor altercation, killing Bashir Ahmad, a lecturer in the English Department. The victim, a resident of Tordher in Mardan, was killed on campus, after which his brother filed a case. Sher Muhammad was later arrested in Karak and transferred to Peshawar.
Islamia College officials revealed that about a month before the incident, the accused and the victim had another argument over an undisclosed matter. Teachers had even requested the Director of Security to change the guard’s posting to avoid any untoward incident.

Following the killing, students staged protests for two consecutive days, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprit. In response, the college administration announced spring vacations from February 20 to 25.
During the trial, the prosecution presented witnesses and evidence, leading the court to convict Sher Muhammad under Section 302 and award him 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. However, he was acquitted under Section 404 due to insufficient evidence.
