A severe heatwave is expected in the plains districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from May 8 to May 10, with temperatures in some southern districts likely to reach up to 47°C.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to all district administrations and relevant departments.
According to PDMA, daytime temperatures in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu, Karak, and Lakki Marwat may rise between 43°C and 47°C, while in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Haripur, and Kohat, temperatures are expected to range from 39°C to 43°C.
The advisory states that hot and dry conditions will persist across southern and central districts, with a risk of dust storms and strong winds due to intense heat.
PDMA has warned that the extreme weather may increase the risk of heatstroke, water shortages, and pressure on water reservoirs, while also accelerating glacier melt in upper regions.
Relevant departments have been instructed to activate heatstroke centers, cooling points, and mobile cooling units, and to keep hospital staff and facilities on high alert.

PDMA further recommended that elderly people and children avoid direct sunlight from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Farmers have been advised to take precautions during crop harvesting and ensure proper care of livestock, while public awareness campaigns have been directed to keep citizens informed about the heatwave.
