Thousands of people displaced from central areas of District Kurram, including Parachinar and its surroundings, are living under difficult conditions in temporary camps for the homeless in Lower Kurram.

The affected people have urged the government for immediate return to their homes, provision of basic facilities in the camp, and special relief packages for Ramadan.

According to details, people from various areas including Torgarh, Joge, Jodra, Ali Sherzai, and Zimisht were displaced four months ago due to deteriorating law and order, and have still not been able to return home.

Currently, more than 500 registered families are residing in the temporary camp in Lower Kurram, while several families are staying with relatives.

Speaking to TNN, the displaced said there is a severe lack of clean drinking water, medical treatment, and other basic facilities in the camp, causing significant difficulties for women, children, and the elderly.

They said that despite assurances from officials, no practical measures have been taken so far.

According to the affected, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had assured the resolution of issues and their prompt return during a visit to District Kurram, but progress has been slow.

Camp residents demanded that their immediate return be ensured, clean water, medical facilities, and other basic necessities be provided in the camp, and that families living outside the camp also be provided tents and relief supplies. They also requested special relief packages in view of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, District Coordinator PDMA, Shiraz Bacha, said that steps are underway to provide facilities and resolve the issues, and the situation is being continuously monitored.
