A heartbreaking conclusion has emerged in the case of 25-year-old Uzma Yaseen, whose disappearance from Muslim Town in Nowshera Cantt had remained a mystery for days. Authorities now suspect that Uzma, who was eight months pregnant, was tragically killed in what appears to be a domestic dispute.

According to Nowshera police, the investigation led to the arrest of Uzma’s sister-in-law Humera Taj and her brother-in-law Saqib Javed, while another suspect, Zahid, son of Fazal Rehman, is currently being sought.

Police say Humera, who had reportedly been living with her parents for the past 11 months following a dispute with her husband, was taken into custody for questioning. During the interrogation, she allegedly confessed to being involved in Uzma’s death along with Zahid and Saqib.

Investigators believe the motive was linked to a fear of family dishonor. According to preliminary findings, the suspects allegedly took Uzma to a secluded area in Baboo Khwar, where she was reportedly assaulted and then set on fire. Uzma could not survive the injuries and tragically passed away along with her unborn child. Her charred remains were later recovered from a nearby seasonal stream.

District Police Officer (DPO) Nowshera, Abdul Rasheed, confirmed that the case was initially registered on May 21 after Uzma’s husband, Yaseen, reported her missing.

A formal case was lodged under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code (abduction). Following the discovery of the body, the charges were upgraded to include Section 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention).

The body was sent to KMC laboratory for post-mortem and DNA analysis. Authorities stated that additional legal charges would be added once results confirm the identity and cause of death. The investigation team will also collect DNA samples from Uzma’s family and child’s potential remains to establish conclusive identification.

Senior Civil Judge Judicial, Banish, has granted a two-day physical remand of the arrested suspects for further investigation. Uzma’s remains have been handed over to her family following the post-mortem, and she was laid to rest in her ancestral village of Shadoshah, Tehsil Bhai.

SP Alamzeb Khan, in charge of the investigation wing, emphasized that given Uzma’s advanced pregnancy, this case may legally be treated as a double homicide. The final legal course will be determined based on forensic reports expected soon.
