The Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar has issued an important directive regarding Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan despite the expiry of their visas, instructing the relevant authorities to take necessary legal action.

Following the directive, police have launched operations in various parts of Peshawar, including Board Bazaar, to verify the status of visa overstayers and undocumented Afghan nationals and initiate legal proceedings against those found residing illegally.

According to the official communication, a list of Afghan visa overstayers has been shared with the SSP Operations, all Assistant Commissioners, and other relevant officials to ensure action is taken in accordance with the law.

The document further instructs authorities to implement the government's repatriation plan for undocumented Afghan nationals and submit a detailed report to the Deputy Commissioner's Office once the operation is completed.

Copies of the directive have also been sent to the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Commissioner Peshawar, the CCPO Peshawar, the Special Branch, and other relevant departments to ensure coordinated implementation.

The directive was issued on 3 July 2026 by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief and Human Rights).

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Interior, in a notification issued on 29 June 2026, directed authorities to identify undocumented and visa-overstaying Afghan nationals and complete action against them by 10 July. From 11 July, arrests will begin against Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan without valid legal documents or a valid visa.
