Safia Bibi, a resident of Nasta Ghazi Khel, Charsadda, has been struggling for justice for the past nine years after her two brothers were brutally murdered. Despite her relentless pursuit, the killers continue to roam free, leaving the widows and orphaned children of the deceased waiting in vain for justice.
According to Safia Bibi, her first brother was murdered nine years ago, and her second brother was killed in the first week of Ramadan. She claims that her brothers were victims of an old enmity that stemmed from a love marriage involving their friend. The opposing family accused their brother's friend of facilitating the marriage, and in retaliation, her brother was killed—despite having no direct involvement in the matter.
During a press conference at the Charsadda Press Club, Safia Bibi, accompanied by her late brothers' orphaned children, voiced her distress. The children's eyes were filled with the unanswered question: "Why were our fathers killed?" The loss of their fathers has left the family in financial turmoil, with no means to sustain themselves.
Safia Bibi further accused Tehsil Assembly Speaker Maulana Abdullah Haqqani of shielding the murderers, causing the police investigation to stall. Although law enforcement conducted limited raids and arrested one suspect with weapons, the main culprits remain at large.
SHO Imtiaz Khan acknowledged the longstanding enmity between the two families and assured that efforts were underway to apprehend the suspects. He added that some belongings had been seized from the suspects’ residence, but further progress depended on legal proceedings.
An FIR has been registered, naming Maulana Abdullah Haqqani and two others. Two of the accused are on the run, and authorities are in the process of blocking their national identity cards. Meanwhile, Maulana Haqqani has secured a transit bail from a Karachi court.
Safia Bibi and her family continue to plead for justice, demanding that the state hold the killers accountable. She questions whether the law treats everyone equally or if justice is only reserved for the powerful—a question that remains unanswered.
