Around 6,000 students from Khyber district pass their matriculation examinations every year and reach college level. However, due to limited seats in first-year classes and financial difficulties, a large number of students are unable to continue their higher education.

Speaking at a press conference at Bara Press Club, Qambar Students Society President Saud Afridi and other office-bearers said that talented students from remote areas of Khyber district travel to Peshawar and other cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after matriculation to pursue higher education. However, they face difficulties not only in securing admission but also in meeting accommodation and other expenses.

Saud Afridi said that the Qambar Students Society, through its own efforts, has played a role in securing admissions for around 1,000 students from Khyber district in various colleges across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He described this as a major achievement, but said these students now need support for hostel accommodation, food and other basic expenses to continue their studies. The society is facing serious difficulties in providing this assistance.

He said that securing admission alone is not enough; poor and deserving students must also be supported until they complete their education. If students continue to face financial difficulties with accommodation and other expenses after admission, many of them may be forced to abandon their education.

He appealed to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Higher Education Department, district administration, elected representatives, philanthropists, welfare organizations, NGOs, civil society and other relevant institutions to launch a special educational support programme for students from Khyber district. Under the programme, deserving students should be provided assistance with college fees, hostel accommodation, books and other essential expenses.
