MARDAN: A security officer at Women’s University Mardan’s Bakhshali Campus has been accused of harassment by a female student, prompting immediate action from the university administration. The officer has been suspended, and a five-member committee has been formed to investigate the allegations.
The incident came to light on Friday when the student, while traveling to campus on the university bus, reportedly told her classmates that she was about to take a stand. Upon reaching the campus, she refused to get off the bus. University staff intervened, escorted her out, and informed her parents. Later, during a conversation with her family, she accused the security officer of harassment.
Acting swiftly, the university administration suspended the officer and barred him from entering the campus. Meanwhile, police launched an investigation on Monday, taking the accused into custody for questioning.

The allegations have triggered student protests on campus, with female students boycotting classes and staging a demonstration against harassment. Chanting slogans such as "We demand justice" and "Ensure our safety," they called for strict action and a safer learning environment.
Women’s University Mardan spokesperson Hazrat Bilal issued a statement assuring a transparent investigation. "The administration is committed to a fair inquiry, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings," he stated. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to ensuring a secure and harassment-free environment for all students and staff.
As the investigation progresses, the incident has reignited discussions on campus safety and the need for stronger policies to protect female students. The university’s handling of the case remains under scrutiny as students and rights activists demand accountability.
