Residents of the Khyber district staged a peace march against the ongoing tensions at the Torkham border and the prolonged closure of the border crossing. The march saw participation from local community members and representatives of various organizations, all united in their call for peace and stability.

Dialogue, Not War, Is the Solution

Addressing the march participants, speakers emphasized that war is not a solution and urged both Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve their disputes through dialogue.

They highlighted the economic losses amounting to billions on both sides due to the ongoing border tensions and stressed the need to resume trade and create employment opportunities under a peace-friendly policy.

Local Livelihoods Severely Affected

Speakers also pointed out that residents of Bacha Meena have begun migrating due to the security situation, while the border tensions have had a devastating impact on the local population. With trade and transport at a standstill, local traders, transporters, and laborers who depend on cross-border business are now struggling to make ends meet.

Call for Immediate Action

Chanting slogans in favor of peace, the march participants demanded that both governments take immediate steps to restore diplomatic ties and ensure stability in the region. They reiterated that peace, not war, is the way forward.

It is worth mentioning that the Torkham border remains closed for the 15th consecutive day following clashes triggered by construction on disputed land by Afghan authorities, leading to an exchange of gunfire between border forces.
